Families may request for their athletes to be assigned to an older league, however decisions to move athletes are at the sole discretion of the Age Group/League Commissioner. Occasionally, the Age Group/League Commissioners may recommend and request an athlete to be placed in a different age group and will do so upon the approval of the athlete's family.

ELIGIBILITY:

Reston Volleyball is open to any child who is 9 years or older on September 30. Requests for children younger than 9 years old as of September 30 must be submitted to the Age Group/League commissioner and will be considered on a case-by-basis where level of coordination, ability, maturity of the athlete and availability of spots will factor in the decision.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS AND TEAMS:
Our aim is to have teams of 10 players. However, numbers will vary based on multiple factors to include current athletes registered, volunteers and gym availability.
Friends are encouraged to sign up together - our motto is "stay together, play together"!

COACHES:
Please consider volunteering to coach volleyball! We rely 100% on volunteers to coach teams. Volunteering to coach is not only needed to keep costs affordable, but it is also a significant part of our program’s structure, our athlete’s, therefore our community’s success. All head coaches selected may have one athlete play for free. Potential adult coaches and adult assistant coaches are subject to a background check. All High School aged coaches can fill volunteer hours. If you or you have a friend or family member over 18 interested in head coaching, or a high school student aged 15 and over interested in assistant coaching, please register via our volunteer tab.

Training for coaches is available through various mediums such as suggested links we will provide, occasional virtual meetings and occasional live clinics throughout the season. Reston Hoops will notify coaches and assistant coaches on how to access and participate in our training.

RESIDENCE:
Most of our players come from the northern Fairfax County area. Players from outside of Fairfax County are required to pay an additional Out-of-County Fee assessed by the county ($50 as of 7/2023).

REGISTRATION:
Registration is required for all participants and volunteers. Registration opens August 1st! All registrations after Aug 28, 2023 will incur a $20 Late registration fee and will be automatically put on an waitlist. If your child is placed on a wait list, you will be notified by email if a spot becomes available. No fees will be taken unless a player is accepted and confirmed into the program.

SKILLS EVALUATION:
We will not have a skills evaluation for ES and MS house volleyball leagues .

GAMES
:
Regular season matches will begin the mid to late September and continue until mid-November on Saturdays and Sundays.  Match format are: 3 sets to 21 rally scoring, and also on a timed clock of 1 hour - whichever comes first.
Girls Matches will be held in Reston. Boys matches will be held throughout Fairfax County,

TEAM PRACTICES:

Practice - 1.5 hour practice/1x a week in Reston or Herndon. Based on gym availability, weeknight practices may start as early as 5:30pm and go as late as 9:00pm. Times are dependent on multiple factors, including permits, coach availability and space availability. During registration clearly indicate days available for practice (coach and/or athlete), to prevent schedule conflicts. We will do our best to work with your family’s schedule.

PLAYING TIME ON MATCH DAY:
Our goal for House league is to have equal playing time – through continuous rotation or each player play at least 2 full sets out of 3 sets played.

REFEREES/GAME DAY VOLUNTEERS:

Sign up to be a paid referee in our Referee Registration portal. Prospective officials must be at least 15 years old at the start of any given season to be eligible to referee within that season.

About 2 hours of unpaid training will be required. Returning officials should also register as a referee in the system too.

We may ask for match day volunteers to flip score and track serves. This is an unpaid volunteer position but a much needed role.

CANCELLATIONS:
Practices and games sometimes are cancelled by Fairfax County due to weather or special activities. Countywide cancellations are posted on Fairfax County television stations, or you may call the County sports Weather Hotline at 703-324-5264. We will do our best to inform you as far in advance as possible if it affects your practice or game, but please give us the grace that there are some unforeseen situations where the information is not provided to us to relay them to you.

EQUIPMENT:
Reston Volleyball will provide team jerseys once the teams are formed. Players provide their own shorts, socks, and gym shoes.

VOLUNTEERS:
Reston Hoops is run by unpaid volunteers, except for referees. Volunteers are always needed. If you would like to volunteer in another capacity, please contact to our volleyball commissioner  - [email protected]
Thank you for visiting us! We hope to see you on the court soon.
