Welcome to Reston Volleyball! Our program is dedicated to fostering the growth and development of young athletes through a supportive and engaging environment. We offer both House and Select opportunities for players with various skill levels. Our seasons run in the fall and spring, featuring regular practices and exciting matches. Referee Registration
*Tryouts are required for Select. Tryouts are free, but prospective Select athletes MUST register. In addition, those who wish to play in our league and want a guaranteed spot MUST register for House as well. The league format will depend on # of competitive athletes, available qualified volunteer coaches, and gym availability. There is an additional cost to playing Select based on gym time usage.
REGISTRATION
Registration is required for all participants, referees, and volunteers. Tryouts for Select are free but ALL 7/8 Girls & Boys athletes trying out for Select should register early for house to guarantee a spot in our league, this is the only way the player will be able to play in our league if the player is not offered a spot on the Select Team. All registrations after August 31st, 2024, will incur a $25 Late registration fee. If the league is full, the registrant will be placed on a waitlist and will be notified by email if a spot becomes available. No fees will be taken unless a player is accepted and confirmed into the program. Financial Aid can be provided based on eligibility requirements and can be requested during registration.
TIMELINE FOR THE FALL
- Select Tryouts will begin late August/early September
- Pre-Season House Clinics begin September 2024
- Matches for House & Select begin 3rd weekend in September
- House Playoffs are October 26, 2024; 7/8 Girls Select, 7/8 Boys & 7/8 Boys Select may have a different match schedule
ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY
Reston Volleyball is open to any child who is 9 years or older on September 30. Requests for children younger than 9 years old as of September 30 must be submitted to the Age Group/League commissioner and will be considered on a case-by-basis where level of coordination, ability, maturity of the athlete and availability of spots will factor in the decision.
Families may request for their athletes to be assigned to an older league in House, however decisions to move athletes are at the sole discretion of the Age Group/League Commissioner. Occasionally, the Age Group/League Commissioners may recommend and request an athlete to be placed in a different age group and will do so upon the approval of the athlete’s family.
VOLUNTEERS FOR COACHES AND LEAGUE OPERATIONS
Volunteers are the backbone of our league and a way to keep costs reasonable for all who want to participate. We welcome and always NEED enthusiastic volunteers to coach and be a part of our league operations as well as mature referees to help run the league. The more volunteers who are willing to coach and help with league operations, the better we operate as a community!
A few highlights when coaching with our league: Only 1 head coach will be named per team, but there's always room for assistant coaches. Head coaches will have the benefit of having 1 athlete play for free per team coached and also have the opportunity to choose practice day and time (from what is available). . Experience isn't necessary, but it helps. We will provide in person & virtual / online training and resources to get you started as a coach. Student coaches get to fill community service hours. Any coach over the age of 18 (head & asst) must pass a background check.
Referees are hired (and paid) based on volleyball knowledge & experience. Referees officiate matches on Saturdays & Sundays in the Reston/Herndon area. Referees must be willing to professionally communicate with adults, be professional, punctual and reliable, and at least 15 y/o by September 15, 2024. About 2 hours of training will be required.

NUMBER OF PLAYERS AND TEAMS
Our aim is to have teams of 10-12 players in both House and Select. However, numbers will vary based on multiple factors to include current athletes registered, volunteers and gym availability. For House, friends are encouraged to sign up together – our motto is “stay together, play together”. For Select, athletes will be drafted and offered spots – no friend requests are honored.
STRUCTURE FOR HOUSE 4TH/5TH, 6TH & 7TH/8TH GRADE LEAGUE
House is a developmental league. Teams practice 1x a week and have 1 hour allotted on Saturday or Sunday for a match. Match format is first team to 2 sets won/best out of 3 with the first two sets to 25 and the 3rd deciding set to 15 - and must win by 2 points. Rules will vary based on division to foster growth and development.
STRUCTURE FOR GIRLS MS SELECT FOR FALL 2024
This is beyond the “intro to volleyball” level. Tryouts are required. Practice 1-2 times a week and attendance is required. Weekend play will consist of scrimmages and clinics for 1.5 hours, sets played to 21 or win by 2. Our goal is to keep the level competitive for those seeking a more challenging experience. The focus will and always will be on growth and development in a competitive setting. USAV rules.
STRUCTURE FOR BOYS MS SELECT FOR FALL 2024
With boys volleyball becoming a sanctioned sport in FCPS, offering an MS Select league within the NOVA BOYS volleyball league will provide a competitive volleyball experience for athletes wanting a more intense level of play. This is beyond the “intro to volleyball” level. Tryouts are required. Practice will be 1-2 times a week and attendance is required. Matches on Saturday or Sunday vs other Select league teams for 1.5 hours and sets are played to 21 or win by 2. USAV rules.
SKILLS EVALUATION/TRYOUTS
Tryouts will be conducted for Select, but not for House. Select Team tryouts will be conducted sometime during the last week in August through the weekend AFTER Labor Day weekend.

To guarantee playing in our league, any athlete not offered to play on a Select team will be placed on a House Team AS LONG AS the athlete is also registered for the HOUSE league.

REFUND POLICY
Requests for cancellation and refunds from RVB must be submitted in writing to [email protected]. Refund requests submitted prior August 1 will be refunded, less a $25 processing fee. Refund requests submitted from August 1 to August 31 will be refunded at 50% the registration fee. CREDIT requests submitted from August 1 to August 31 will receive a credit less a 10% processing fee. NO refunds or credits will be issued for requests after September 1. No refunds will be made for cancellations due to inclement weather, injuries or other circumstances beyond our control.
