Reston House Basketball Registration Forms

Reston Hoops House league will group players according to their current grade in school.

Families may ask for players to be assigned to an older league. Decisions to move players are at the sole discretion of the Age Group Commissioner. Players may be placed in an older or younger grouping based on recommendation of the Age Group Commissioners and the approval of the family).

Reston Hoops is open to any child who is 7 years or older on October 1. Children playing basketball for a public or private school during Reston Hoops season are not eligible. Players in the House league are prohibited from playing for any other organization’s Select/Travel team during the same season. For children younger than 7 years old as of October 1, the 1st/2nd grade Age Group Commissioner may approve the child to participate based on their level of coordination and ability. This will be determined on a case-by-base basis and is solely the decision of the Age Group Commissioner. Parents should bring the child to an evaluation session for review by the Commissioner.

Reston Hoops strives to have teams of ~9 players. However, numbers may vary based on current registration numbers. We will create teams based on registered players and volunteers.

Like most youth sports organizations in our area Reston Hoops relies on volunteers to coach our teams. Please consider volunteering to coach or assistant coach for your registered player's team. If you have a friend or family member over 18 interested in coaching please have them register via our volunteer tab. Note: All registered volunteers are automatically background checked.

Most of our players come from Reston, Herndon, Oakton, Oak Hill, Vienna, Franklin Farm, and Great Falls. Players from outside of Fairfax County are required to pay an additional Out-of-County Fee assessed by the county.

Registration is required for all participants and volunteers.

Registration will be open no later than September 1A $20 Late registration fee will apply starting November 6th and will be charged per player. Wait lists may also apply starting in early-November. If your child is placed on a wait list you will be notified by email if a spot becomes available. No fees will be taken unless a player is accepted into the program for wait list players.

A brief evaluation of each player’s skills is needed to competitively balance the teams within practical limits. Since skills can change markedly in one year, all children must attend one (only one) of the sessions. Please view our upcoming evaluation sessions. League registration is required to attend though you do not need to sign up for an evaluation time..  Just show up for a session.
HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETES:  There are no evals for HS.  Athletes can be placed on a team,  submit friend requests (in their profile or via email), or they may form their own team and notify us.  Need 7-8 for a team.  Email [email protected].

Regular season games will begin in early December and continue until mid-March.  Games are mostly on Saturdays between 9am - 3pm.  Generally younger age groups are earlier in the day.  Older age groups run throughout the day due to the larger number of teams and limited gym space.
Sunday games are typically limited to tournaments and make-ups games due to weather closures. Tournaments occur two times at most and depend on the team's success.

Practices are normally limited to one hour, one night per week. There may be league activities (practices/games) during the public school winter vacation period. Weeknights practices start after 5:00 pm. Times are dependent on multiple factors, including permits, coach availability and space availability. In the registration form there is a spot to indicate practice days to be avoided, if possible, to prevent schedule conflicts. We will do our best to work with your schedule.

Nov 5 - Nov 17: House League Evals (Please view our evaluation sessions)
Nov 19: Teams Setup
Nov 27 - Dec 1: First Practices
Dec 2 - Dec 21: Practices, Scrimmages, and Kick-Off Mini Tournament (SLHS)

Our goal is to have each player play a minimum of two quarters. Detailed rules for each age group are provided to each coach and are available for parent review.

Reston Hoops trains and uses students, young adults, and parents as officials for all games except the high school boy’s age group where only adult officials are used. Referees are paid for their time. Prospective officials, at least 14 years old by January 1 of the current year, should sign up under the Ref Registration  as a Referee. Returning officials will be contacted by email regarding training dates, but we do ask that you register as a referee in the system too.

Practices and games are sometimes cancelled by Fairfax County due to weather or special activities going on in a particular school. Countywide cancellations are posted on Fairfax County television stations or you may call the County sports Weather Hotline at 703-324-5264.

Reston  Hoops will provide reversible (blue/white) team jerseys & shorts once the teams are formed. Players provide their own  socks, and shoes. Winter 2023/24 - every registered player will be provided a Reston Hoops logo'd Blue & Green Basketball.

Reston  Hoops is run by volunteers, except for referees. Volunteers are always needed for commissioners, County certified Volunteer Building Directors, coaches, assistant coaches, scorekeeper/timers, and officials. Potential coaches or assistant coaches are subject to a background check. Training for coaches is usually provided by area high school coaches prior to the beginning of games. Reston Hoops will notify coaches and assistant coaches when details are known. If you wish to volunteer as a coach or assistant, please check the proper box when registering or register under the volunteer tab.
